THE ULTIMATE GUIDE
TO FREIGHT SHIPPING THROUGH FLORIDA PORTS

When it comes to ocean freight shipping in Florida, there is a lot to know to ensure you follow the appropriate steps when shipping into and out of Florida Ports.
Dry Van Trucking Miami: Reliable Enclosed Freight Transport
Dry van trucking is the most common and versatile freight transportation method in the United States, and Miami is one of the busiest dry van freight markets in the Southeast. Whether you are shipping consumer goods, electronics, building materials, food products, or retail inventory, a dry van provides a fully enclosed, weather-protected trailer that keeps your freight safe from the elements and secure during transit.
Go Freight operates a fleet of dry van trucks out of Miami, providing full truckload (FTL) and partial truckload services throughout South Florida, the Southeast, and nationwide.
What Is a Dry Van?
A dry van is a fully enclosed, non-temperature-controlled trailer typically measuring 53 feet long, 8.5 feet wide, and 9 feet tall (interior dimensions). Dry vans are called “dry” because they do not have refrigeration units — they are designed for non-perishable goods that do not require temperature control. Standard dry van trailers can carry up to 44,000 to 45,000 pounds of freight and accommodate 22 to 26 standard pallets.
Dry Van vs. Box Truck
A common question in the freight industry is the difference between a dry van and a box truck. A dry van is a separate trailer pulled by a semi-truck (tractor-trailer combination) and is 53 feet long with a capacity of up to 45,000 lbs. A box truck is a single-unit vehicle with the cargo box permanently attached to the cab, typically 16 to 26 feet long with a capacity of 10,000 to 15,000 lbs. Dry vans are used for full truckload freight over longer distances, while box trucks are ideal for local delivery and smaller loads.
Dry Van Freight Rates from Miami (2026)
Dry van freight rates from Miami depend on distance, weight, pickup and delivery requirements, and market conditions. Typical rates include local Miami-Dade moves at $400 to $800, regional South Florida moves at $600 to $1,500, Florida statewide at $1,200 to $2,500, Southeast US at $2,000 to $4,000, and cross-country at $4,000 to $8,000.
Go Freight offers competitive dry van rates because we own our trucks and trailers — no broker commission added to your rate.
